IRAQI tanks and troops amassed on the Syrian border last night, as the conflict escalated and Assad’s regime forces appear close to collapse.
Iraq’s government claims this move is not the early stages of a ground invasion into the troubled state, but a necessary security measure. ISIS, which claims borders in Iraq as well as Syria, appears to be launching a fresh wave of assaults across the region.
A regional military expert called this move “concerning, considering the already destabilized region.”
The Security Council, NATO, and the Arab League have all met to discuss bringing a ceasefire to the region, but negotiations have so far failed.
